It wasn’t something we planned. I have been busy with work, and with finishing up the recording, and art for the new Bears Of Manitou album, and over the last several month had been working with our friend kymberlee to write and record a few songs. Chanelle and I have been happily playing music together since the day we met. I had always had the thought of performing with her as a seperate musical project, but didn’t think it would happen this soon. I also didn’t expect the warm embrace we received from the Tempe community and the TCA (Tempe Center for Performing Arts).
Its really a unique setup they have going on. 15-20 people show up every Wednesday to play for 10 minutes sometimes between 5pm and 11pm. And everyone sticks around to see their neighbors perform. The whole event is run by a local legend (just nominated for the AZ Music Hall Of Fame) Walt Richardson.
So just after a few Wednesdays of us performing a few covers and a few originals, we were asked to play the Singer/songwriter showcase on June 29th. Needless to say we are pretty excited to perform for these wonderful people, and hope that our participation will cultivate more people from the Tempe community to join us every Wednesday at Tempe Center for the Arts.
The past few days were well spent. They always are. The bird and I went to The Golden Rule tattoo in downtown Phoenix last night to get our bro tattoos. Our friends, the artist and the tattoo artist both had to be somewhere and were on a schedule. The timing did not feel right so we decided to wait to move forward until the next day (today) when things felt “right”
So par for our history, we ended up talking for a few hours in downtown PHX. Not in a restaurant/bar/coffee shop, but on the street, and in the front seat of a car. Our discussions led us to our past, our histories and ironically a topic that resurfaced this morning. You see, this world is intertwined…connected. (more…)
